One bright Saturday morning, Freya’s mummy suggests a special outing.
“Shall we go to the library and find some books about puppies?” she asks.
Freya’s eyes light up. “Yes! I want to learn how to take care of Poppy properly!”
“But dogs aren’t allowed in the library,” she adds.
They ask Daddy to look after Poppy. He is very happy to have Poppy all to himself to play with, so Freya and Mummy set off.
They enjoy strolling past shops and cafés on their way to the library. It’s lovely to have time to look at the shop windows and wave to the baker as he arranges fresh loaves in the bread baskets.
While they walk, Freya is already thinking about the puppy books she wants to choose.
The library is quiet and calm. Rows of books stretch high above Freya’s head, and the air smells of paper and ink.
They make their way to the children’s section, where a friendly librarian smiles at them.
“Are you looking for anything special today?” she asks.
Freya nods eagerly. “Books about puppies, please!”
The librarian leads them to a shelf filled with books about dogs. There are stories, guides and books with big, colourful pictures.
Freya picks one about puppy training and another about different kinds of dog breeds.
She and her mummy settle into a cosy corner and flip through the pages.
“Look, Mummy! This book says puppies need lots of naps and wees,” Freya giggles. “Poppy is very good at both of those!”
Once they’ve chosen their books, they check them out at the front desk.
Freya puts them in her bag and hugs the bag all the way home. She can’t wait to show them to Daddy!
Back home, Poppy greets them both with excited barks.
“I’ve found some really good books,” Freya tells her. “I’m going to learn all about you!”
She curls up on the sofa with Poppy snuggled beside her, ready to read.
With every page, Freya learns something new. She is excited to help Poppy grow into the best dog she can be.
